ENVIRONMENTAL TEST CENTRE Chennai, 30th Jun 2017

          Environmental test centre which is a facility of National Importance was Inaugurated by Dr. P Sivakumar, Distinguished Scientist & Director CVRDE Avadi, Chennai today (30 Jun 2017).  Mr. S Sivakumar, Additional Directore (R&QA) was also present.

          This world class facility was established in collaboration with M/s Weiss Umwell Technik, Germany and M/s Weiss Technik India (P) Ltd.  It is capable of simulating any environmental conditions; low temperature upto – 40o C and high temperature upto +90 o C, Solar simulation from 600 to 1200 w/m2 and Relative humidity from 20% to 95% for Armoured Fighting Vehicles.  AFVs can be tested and qualified in an integrated condition for its Battle worthiness. The programme was followed by Tree plantation by the Guests.     TS/NR/06/2017

COMBINED PASSING OUT PARADE OF WARRIORS AT AIR FORCE STATION AVADI

 Chennai, 30th Jun 2017  277 trainees of Automobile Technician trade and Air Force Police trade of Mechanical Transport Training Institute (MTTI) and Air Force Police & Security Training Institute (AFP&STI) respectively, successfully completed their training.  To mark the culmination of their training, a ceremonial Passing Out Parade was held today (30th Jun 2017) at Mechanical Transport Training Institute, Avadi.

            Air Commodore CGH Khan, Headquarters Training Command, Bangalore was the Reviewing Officer for the Parade.  He was received by Group Captain PV Pawar, Commanding Officer, Mechanical Transport Training Institute, Air Force.  The Chief Guest reviewed the parade and presented Trophies to the meritorious passing out candidates.  Addressing the parade, the Chief Guest emphasized upon the trainees to ensure optimum contribution by each of them towards the service.  To achieve this, a sound foundation has been laid at Training Institute and this would help them in becoming true air warriors.

            There was an unarmed combat display presented by the intrepid Air Warriors, which was followed by a dazzling display of Gypsy drill where in the ab-initio trainees demonstrated their skills of dismantling and re-assembling a Maruti Gypsy in less than 5 minutes.  Thereafter, the Indian Air Force Police trainees demonstrated their driving skill by presenting a daring motorcycle drill.  Their action impressed everyone with prefect synchronizing movements.

            Among the prize winners from the newly passed out trainees LAC Ramakrishna Mondal was the best trade, AC D Bhattacharya was the best in General Service Training and LAC Arijit Dey was adjudged as the best all-rounder in Automobile Technician.    LAC Soumen Dana was adjudged the best all rounder in Air Force Police.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY BY DAKSHIN BHARAT AREA Chennai, 21st June 2017

The third edition of the International Yoga Day was held on 21st June 2017 at the Palm Grove Environmental Centre and was celebrated by all service personnel of Dakshin Bharat Area. Speaking on the occasion Lt Gen RK Anand, General Commanding Officer, Dakshin Bharat Area said that through the Yoga Day, intended that the ancient Indian heritage of Yoga could be imbibed to accommodate a comprehensive disciple of physical, mental and spiritual practice in to our lives.  A total of approximate 500 persons participated in the event and made it a grand success.

 LIEUTENANT GENERAL PM HARIZ, GENERAL OFFICER COMMAINDING-IN-CHIEF SOUTHERN COMMAND AND COLONEL OF THE MECHANISED

INFANTRY REGIMENT’S VISIT TO SAINIK SCHOOL AMARAVATHINAGAR ON 08 JUNE 2017                                                                       

            Sainik School Amaravathinagar conducted the Investiture Ceremony on   08 Jun 2017, for the year 2017-18 which was a grand and solemn occasion, wherein various School Appointments were accorded their ranks.  This year the grandeur of this occasion was enhanced by the presence of Lieutenant General PM Hariz,  General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command and Colonel of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment who has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest on the occasion, bestow the ranks on the appointment cadets and deliver the ceremonial address.

            The General is an alumni of the school and passed out in 1973.  As a Cadet in the School, he was meritorious in academics as also excelled in sports & games and NCC.  He was an aspirant of joining the Services and motivated his classmates too.  He exhibited leader like qualities even in the school days.

            On completion of basic military training from Indian Military Academy in Dehradun in 1978, he was commissioned into 12 Mechanised Infantry Battalion and later commanded 19 Mechanised Infantry Battalion (Recce and Support).  The officer was an instructor at Infantry School Mhow and also at the prestigious Defence Services Staff College in Wellington.  He has commanded a Battalion, Brigade, Division and Corps in the Western Sector.  The General has attended the Staff Course at Camberly (UK), Higher Command Course in Mhow and National Defence College in Delhi.  He has held various United Nations appointments, which include a combined tenure as Military Observer, Chief Personnel Officer and Regional Commander in Angola.  Prior to taking over the reins of the largest Command of the Indian Army, the General was General Officer Commanding-in-Chief at Army Training Command in Shimla.  Lieutenant General PM Hariz hails from Kozhikode in Kerala.  His wife Zarina Hariz is actively involved in empowerment of women with special emphasis on education and health care.  His son is a commissioned officer in a Mechanised Infantry battalion and his daughter is a special educator.

            Group Captain TN Sridhar The Principal of Sainik School Amaravathinagar, was in the forefront to receive Lieutenant General PM Hariz, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command who visited the School after 43 years to preside over the Investiture ceremony.  It was proud and momentous occasion for the school.

SriLankan Airlines adds three more Indian cities to its global route map

Continuing its strategic focus on India,whereby strengthening its network across more cities,

SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the oneworld airline alliance, will be adding three southern Indian cities — Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam — to its network from July this year.

The new connections are expected to bridge the demand of both Indians and Sri Lankans who have been looking for seamless connections across the region for work and leisure purposes, in Sri Lanka, India and onward destinations.

The introduction of these new routes, along with the scheduled frequency increases in its Delhi and Mumbai services, will see SriLankan operating over 120 flights a week to 14 cities, thus becoming the carrier that serves the highest number of points in India.

Commencing from July 8, 2017 the flight timings from these cities will be: Commenting on the developments, SriLankan Airlines Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Siva Ramachandran stated, “India has been a vital part of our strategic expansion where we will continue to explore potential to consolidate our presence. At a time the industry observes consistently developingtravel movements around tier two cities as opposed to the traditional hubs, it is timely to offer these connectivity options to our valued passengers.  The new routes also reinforces our commitment to strengthen the deep commercial and bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka.”

The new routes will be serviced by Airbus 320/321 aircraftwhich will feature an array of bespoke services, world-class in-flight entertainment including a combination of practical timings and signature SriLankan Airlines’ hospitality services. These new routes are introduced with the aim of providing passengers with added convenience, seamless travel and easy onward connectivity from Colombo.

142  QUALIFIED FLYING INSTRUCTORS COURSE VALEDICTORY FUNCTION :18 MAY 17 PRESIDED OVER BY AIR MSHL RK DHIR  PARAM  AIR OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF, SOUTH WESTERN AIR COMMAND

 Chennai, 19th May 2017

            The Flying Instructors’ School (FIS), which is based at Air Force Station, Tambaram, is a unique institution that has established a niche for itself in the field of aviation training. It has rich experience of more than 60 years as an established unit of the Indian Air Force. At the international level, several professional pilots from friendly foreign countries have graduated from this School.

            The Valedictory Function for the 142nd Qualified Flying Instructors Course (QFIC) was held on 18 May 17. The Chief Guest for the function was Air Marshal RK Dhir  Param, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, South Western Air Command.  Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Tambaram, Air Commodore S Shrinivas , was the Chief Host.

          Group Captain Vivek Gupta, Commanding Officer of the Flying Instructors’ School, under whose supervision all the training is done, summed up the achievements of the course. The Chief Guest stressed on the invaluable role played by FIS in training Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) who are instrumental in producing pilots who meet the desired standards for their organization. These QFIs would thereafter carry the responsibility of guiding newly inducted trainee pilots in consonance with the long term vision of the Indian Air Force.

            The QFIC is a gruelling 25-weeks package. It encompasses nine phases of flying training and over 190 hours of ground training. The training of 142nd QFIC commenced on 28 Nov 2016. A total of 26 officers graduated on 18 May 2017. These included 17 officers of the Indian Air Force, 02 from Indian Army, 04 from Indian Navy, 01 from Indian Coast Guard, 01 foreign officer from Bangladesh and 01 foreign officer from Myanmar. The Valedictory Function marked the culmination of the efforts of the trainees and staff of FIS. Graduates of the Course were awarded the coveted symbol of ‘Qualified Flying Instructor’ which they can now wear proudly on their uniforms. The pilots who achieved distinction in flying and ground subjects were awarded trophies:-

  1.    (a)     The prestigious Majithia Trophy for the officer standing first in Overall

         Order of Merit was awarded to : Sqn Ldr Sumit Kumar.

         (b)    The Chief of Air Staff’s Trophy for Best in Fixed Wing Flying was

         awarded to : Lt Cdr Karan Batura

         (c)   The Chief of Air Staff’s Trophy for Best in Rotary Wing Flying was  

          awarded to : Lt Cdr Prashant Chaudhari

         (d)     The Commodore Commandant’s Trophy for standing first in

         Aerobatics was awarded to : Sqn Ldr Dhruv Shukla

         (e)    The Dibagh Trophy for standing first in Instructional Technique was

         awarded to : Sqn Ldr Sumit Kumar                

         (f)    Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief’s Trophy for standing first in 

Ground

         Subjects was awarded to : Sqn Ldr Sumit Kumar                

         (g)   Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief’s Trophy for standing second in 

         Overall order of Merit was awarded to : Sqn Ldr PK Vasideddy               

           In his convocational address, the Chief Guest congratulated the graduating officers. He exhorted them to convey forward their rich learning experiences at FIS and apply this knowledge effectively. He urged them to inculcate the highest standards of mental and physical discipline amongst their trainees, in true traditions of the Indian Air Force.

AWARD OF JEEVAN RAKSHA PADAK BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA TO IAF
 Jeevan Raksha Padak has been awarded to Corporal Pankaj Kumar Pandey who is a commando trained air warrior posted at Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore, for his extraordinary valour displayed by him to save the life of an endangered civilian at Coimbatore on 09 Jan 2015.

The Padak awarded by the President of India has been bestowed to the Corporal Pandey by Air Commodore VPS Rana Commandant, Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore in a ceremonial parade of the College on 02 May 2017.
Corporal PK Pandey during his leave, had visited a local temple 15 km away from Coimbatore accompanied by another air warrior on 09 Jan 2015.

Jeevan Raksha Padak being bestowed to Corporal PK Pandey by Air Commodore VPS Rana Vishisht Seva Medal, Commandant, Air Force Administrtive CollegeWhile at the temple, Corporal Pandey heard a lady’s cry for help. It seemed that her husband had inadvertently slipped over the edge and fallen off the cliff. Without worrying for his safety, instantly, Corporal PK Pandey jumped over the cliff with an aim to rescue the injured man who was lying motionless in a pool of blood 50 feet below. Corporal Pandey hoisted the man on his back and carried him to the closest road from where the man was taken in a car to the nearest hospital without caring for his own life and impending adverse environment. In the process he also suffered spinal injuries and has been on medical treatment ever since.

For his exceptional courage and timely response to save the life of an injured person without caring for his own safety, Corporal Pandey has been conferred with Jeevan Raksha Padak by the President of India.
