UTOO takes driver’s background verification checks to next level

Chennai, July, 2017:

The kind of safety offered to the passengers by the cab aggregators has come under intense scrutiny, of late. Hiring a cab a few years ago was hard, time consuming and cumbersome. Today, technology has made it much easier to book a cab. In just a few minutes of making a booking on the app, the cab arrives at the door steps. While there is no denying the fact that hailing a cab service has become easier, there are many potential threats and insecurities the passengers, especially women, face in matters relating to their safety. Instances of physical violence, abuse and sexual assault against passengers have been reported in the media, sending shock waves across the country. Though the enactment of standalone laws and framing rules may help, the responsibility to provide safer rides to passengers squarely falls on the cab aggregators and operators.

At the very outset, having a detailed verification process in place to ascertain the antecedents of the drivers is important. People with criminal background and poor character record can be kept at bay. Carrying out the verification process is the first step by which the cab providers can assure safety to their customers. Since most of the offences are committed by people who have an unsatisfactory track record, seeking the help of independent background verification companies and the police department to verify the track record of drivers can go a long way in offering safe and secure travel to the customers.

The Chennai-based startup UTOO Cabs, eyeing a bigger pie in the app-based taxi booking industry, is firming up the background verification process of its drivers. The Cab operator, with plans to expand to untapped tier-2 cities, has put in place a strict verification process before hiring new drivers. “Safety and security of our customers continues to be our top most priority,” says Fazil Badrudeen, Brand Head, UTOO.

Drivers at UTOO are selected after a strict scrutiny of both skill and personality. All our drivers have a face-to-face interview before being selected. Once selected, a physical address verification and Aadhar verification is carried out along with a mandatory health checkup. “To ensure our drivers have a clean character record, we also insist on Police Verification Certificate prior to joining us,” adds Fazil.

The cab operator has set a lofty target of becoming a name synonymous to safety and security in the taxi hailing space. “Taking on the existing players in the industry has been on the radar right from the time of UTOO’s inception,” says Fazil. Currently, in terms of safety, customer-experience and cleanliness, we stand ahead of the rest, and this certainly will help us grab a bigger pie in the app-based taxi-booking space.”

At present, UTOO operates from Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad with a fleet strength of about 1000 cabs, and has plans to expand to 8 more cities in the future. Significantly, the operator does not resort to surge charging or peak pricing at any point of the day. This means, the prices will remain the same irrespective of whether the cab is hired during Peak-Hours or Off-peak hours.

UTOO bets big on professionally trained drivers

UTOO bets big on professionally trained drivers

 Chennai, 28.06.2017:

UTOO Cabs, with the promise of offering safe and pleasant experience to passengers availing its urban commutation services, is expanding its footprint fast. After Chennai, UTOO has rolled out services in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, contesting the dominance of Uber and Ola in this space. The cab services startup also announced its plans to offer services in other major cities of India in the near future. The home-bred startup, which has entered the market with a promise to nurture ethical relationships with driver partners, through wealth sharing and a string of other welfare measures, has announced that it will train interested people into disciplined cab drivers.

The company announced that the aspiring drivers go through a rigorous phase of training. Apart from upskilling their driving capabilities, they take part in seminars and workshops, meant to learn how to win hearts of the customers with a polite demeanor, discipline and law abidance. The drivers are put through 50 hours of training in driving, app training, English and soft skills; after which they undertake rigorous tests and checks before getting deployed into the active fleet. Driver health checkups like BP and sugar test are taken when they start working with UTOO. The company makes it mandatory for drivers to wear the seat belt as all their vehicles are fitted with Airbags. At a time when other cab aggregators are staring at their fast eroding credibility, UTOO sees this as a right move to train their drivers into a disciplined force and better citizens.

“The need for training and disciplining more and more drivers is necessitated by the growing demand for UTOO services. We are also adding more cabs to the existing fleet to meet the rising demand for UTOO services,” said Fazil Badrudeen, Brand Head, UTOO Cabs.

UTOO has Compact, Sedan and SUV vehicles in its fleet, driven by uniform wearing drivers beaming with professionalism. The company has been increasing the number of vehicles in its fleet and it’s only set to go up. To make it safer for single woman passengers, they have an option to hire cabs driven by women. The startup in a statement said that they are also training more women drivers, thus adding to the safety aspect. Most of their existing women drivers come from an underprivileged background and are trained in driving, before getting inducted to the UTOO’s workforce through partner driving institutes that impart UTOO’s driver culture from the beginning of their training.

Interestingly, the drivers at UTOO have several reasons to cheer. They are rewarded with several non-cash benefits every month, to ensure that they stay motivated throughout the year. They are also given Physiotherapy training on regular basis.

UTOO CABS GAINS COMPETITIVE EDGE ON SAFETY ASPECTS

UTOO CABS GAINS COMPETITIVE EDGE ON SAFETY ASPECTS

Chennai, June 12, 2017-;

UTOO, the latest and the fastest growing player in the taxi hailing service market, is taking nothing to chance when it comes to offering safety to its passengers. Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai or any – the safety of passengers, especially of women, has garnered the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Even the well-entrenched taxi service providers have come under strong criticism for leaving the safety of their passengers to the winds, by not having a proper mechanism in place to deter the drivers from committing offences against the passengers.

UTOO cabs, which has entered the cab services market in 2016, and now offering its services in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, is taking on its competitors in safety aspects by putting in place a string of safety measures that can win confidence and trust of the passengers.

The Chennai-based urban commute services start-up hires only drivers who pass their strict screening process that eliminates those with suspicious background. Conducting background verification on the intended drivers is the first step in ensuring the security of the passengers.

While every other player in this space happens to conduct background verification, UTOO has gone a step forward and incorporated extra measures to promise safe rides for both drivers and passengers. Drivers are insisted on producing a Police Verification Certificate prior to joining UTOO.

The app-based taxi hailing company also makes it mandatory for its drivers to wear the seat belt when driving. “For our drivers, this is not just another instance of abiding by the law; wearing the seat belt ensures safety and also demonstrates their sincerity and discipline towards the passengers” says, Fazil Badrudeen, Brand Head, UTOO.

In terms of assuring security to its passengers, UTOO seems to leave no stone unturned. The extra safety measures include panic buttons and air bags. The panic buttons are strategically placed behind the driver’s seat in all the UTOO cabs. This option comes in handy to passengers during night rides, and they can raise the alarm when they suspect any threat to their safety. More interestingly, every UTOO cab comes fitted with airbags. “Seat belts and airbags make it possible to sustain collisions and can prove to be life-saving to both our customers and drivers”, says Fazil, adding that UTOO, however, has speed limits which the drivers are mandated to strictly adhere to.

NEW UBER RIDER APP IS NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL RIDERS IN ALL 29 CITIES IN INDIA

NEW UBER RIDER APP IS NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL RIDERS IN ALL 29 CITIES IN INDIA
NEW UBER RIDER APP IS NOW AVAILABLE TO ALL RIDERS IN ALL 29 CITIES IN INDIA

“Uber is based on a simple concept: push a button, get a ride. What started as a way to request premium cars, now offers a range of products, making millions of rides possible across the world. While providing seamless on-demand transportation for riders remains our central focus, the newly designed rider app is unique as we rebuilt it from ground up to deliver a much faster and improved interface for riders. We are excited that riders across India will now have this superior experience.” – Apurva Dalal, Head of Engineering, Uber India.

The new rider app has been re-engineered, keeping in mind the changing needs of riders around the world. It aims to recapture the clean and simple aesthetics of the original Uber experience, without sacrificing on the choices riders can now expect. Some of the major changes to the rider app that contribute to a superior Uber experience include:
– A faster app with a new design
– Clearer vehicle options, with upfront pricing view

Smarter pickups to help reduce ETA

– Personalized in-app shortcuts

The new app offers a host of features, which have already been appreciated by the riders in India:

  • Destination first: The new Uber experience is reimagined around a simple question—“Where to?” After all, riders use Uber to get somewhere—or to someone. And by starting with the rider destination, we can tailor the journey better.
  • Shortcuts: The new Uber app learns from riders’ routines. Frequent riders will see “shortcuts” that predict where one could be headed. This means riders can get moving with just one tap.
  • Saved places: The new app allows riders to save locations that they frequent. This could be a hotel that they prefer to stay at while traveling, favorite restaurants, client’s office, dentist’s clinic or even a friend’s house.
  • Rider ratings: To give riders more visibility into how drivers are rating them, Uber is making rider ratings much more accessible in the app. Now, a rider’s rating will be displayed right under their name in the app’s menu.
  • Pickup experience: The pickup is a core part of the Uber experience. In an effort to make it easier, riders can update their pickup location after they book a ride. This simple fix gives them more control over their pickup experience, and saves everyone time and avoidable headaches.
  • Calendar integration: Riders can now sync their calendar with Uber. With this, riders’ meetings and appointments will automatically appear as “shortcuts,” saving them the hassle of digging through another app to find the right address.
  • Choose the car & compare upfront fare: After entering the destination in ‘where to’, riders can also decide how to get there. They prefer different types of rides for different moments. If the rider is on the way to a party or with business associates, a more spacious uberX ride is preferred, while an uberGO serves as the most affordable everyday ride. And for a run-of-the-mill trip to the market or the lowest cost option, an uberPOOL works well. It’s now much easier to compare the cost of all these options with upfront fares, so the rider can make an informed choice.
  • Once the rider is on the trip, the focus is on helping them make the most of their ride. They can still split the fare, keep track of estimated time to destination and share trip status with friends.
  • On-trip integrations: Soon, Uber will offer more experiences tailored around rider destinations that will include on-trip integrations with other utility based mobile applications, social media platforms, and news aggregators, among others.

To top these, here are the features most loved by riders in India:

images (1)

Schedule a ride: A top-requested service from riders around the world, especially from business travelers who use Uber rides for important meetings, appointments, trips to airports and stations, etc., has been rolled out in India. This new feature adds to the reliability and convenience riders have come to experience on Uber. An uberX or an uberGO ride can now be scheduled for as little as 15 minutes to as many as 30 days in advance.

Request a ride for others: Riders have often booked rides for their friends and family members. However, it involved the hassle of coordinating the pickup or managing payments. With the new update, it now works in a much simpler manner. If the pickup location differs from the detected location of the person booking the ride, the app will prompt if the ride is being booked for someone else. If yes, they can select the option and the app will allow them to choose a contact. At this point, the person booking the ride can also choose the desired payment method. Meanwhile, the rider will get two text messages – one with the driver and car details and the second with a link to track the ride.

Split fare: Another interesting feature added by Uber was a fare split, that enabled riders to split the Uber bill with friends. After the trip begins, riders can select ‘Split Fare’ and choose a contact to hit send. The rider’s friend(s) will receive a text with a link that will open the Uber app on their phone. Once they confirm their willingness to split the bill, the fare automatically gets divided between the riders.

Share trip details: Uber’s ride sharing feature enables a rider to send details of the driver-partner and their ride with friends or family members. Once the trip begins, riders can share these details from the app by tapping the ‘send status’ option and choosing a contact on their phone. This functionality is extremely useful to track trip progress in real time.

Choose payment mode: Riders can choose a payment option that works best for them – cash, digital wallet, credit card and debit card.

The new rider app which has been developed using a completely new architecture, also opens up a plethora of possibilities for improving the new rider feed, as well expanding this to the driver app, and even building for the future.

uberMoto strengthens nationwide presence with Ahmedabad launch

uberMoto strengthens nationwide presence with Ahmedabad launch
New Delhi, May 11th, 2017: Uber, the ridesharing app that connects riders with drivers to provide convenient, reliable and affordable rides at the push of a button, today announced the launch of its bike-sharing product, uberMOTO, in Ahmedabad in the presence of of Shri Vallabhbhai G Kakadiya, Hon’ble Transport Minister, Gujarat, and Shri Vipul Mittra, Principal Secretary, Transport –  a first of its kind service in Gujarat.
The launch is in line with Uber’s focus on using today’s transportation infrastructure more efficiently and effectively, while offering riders another quick, easy and affordable way to get around the city. With this launch, uberMOTO will be available in five cities in India – Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Mr Prabhjeet Singh, General Manager, North, Uber India, said “With urban mobility being a key focus area for the Government of India, we want to do our bit by introducing newer ways of ridesharing that will help solve for issues like traffic, congestion and last mile connectivity across India. We are very excited to launch our bike sharing product UberMOTO in Ahmedabad. This will be the fifth city in India to go live with this service. We would like to thank the respective State Governments for showing their support and commitment to embracing technology-enabled solutions for their cities.”

Commenting on the development in Ahmedabad, Shri Vallabhbhai G Kakadiya, Honble Transport Minister, Gujarat said, “I believe that bikesharing will contribute greatly to improving last-mile connectivity in Gujarat and in reducing the transportation problems faced by people in Ahmedabad. I am certain that uberMOTO will not only offer riders a quick and affordable ride around the city but will also be instrumental in creating economic opportunities for the youth in Ahmedabad. I urge all driver partners to follow road safety rules and support Uber in its commitment to make transportation safe, reliable and affordable for all.”

uberMOTO gives riders an affordable and convenient motorcycle ride at the push of a button, through the Uber app. Riders receive driver and bike details just as they do for other Uber rides, as well as all standard safety features before, during and after the ride including GPS tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends.

How uberMOTO works:

  • Download the Uber app for iOS or Android and create an Uber account
  • Select uberMOTO in the app, enter the pickup location and payment method, and request a ride; receive driver details — name, photo and details of the motorbike.
  • uberMOTO drivers will have one helmet for the rider, and all riders and drivers must wear a helmet, as per the law.
  • At the end of the trip, pay by cash, credit/debit card or mobile wallet and receive an electronic receipt via the Uber app.

uberMOTO will be one of the most affordable transportation options in the city, with fares as low as Rs. 3. The product has been rolled out after a successful pilot that concluded last summer.

uberMOTO is also available in the Southeast Asian countries of Indonesia and Vietnam, and is especially well-suited for first mile/last mile connectivity, getting people from their homes or offices to metro stations and vice – versa.

Richmond, Virginia: Destination Worthy of an Epic

For more than 400 years, people have been attracted to Richmond, Virginia’s capital city, which was the capital of the Confederate United States during the Civil War in the 1860s. Today, when you fly into Richmond International Airport, you’ll find a cosmopolitan mix of the arts, craft beer, outdoor recreation and culinary delights. It’s easy to get immersed in history too, touring monuments, landmarks, battlegrounds and, now, sites seen on the big screen. Richmond’s most famous film, Steven Spielberg’s epic “Lincoln,” about the former U.S. president and released in 2012, filmed in many locations around the city over 53 days. You can tour the highlights, which include the beautiful, historic Jefferson Hotel, where many cast and crew members stayed and dined; Balliceaux, the restaurant actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt frequented; and Maymont, a 40-hectare estate with a Gilded Age mansion and beautiful gardens, where filming included the surrender at Appomattox and a carriage ride for President and Mrs. Lincoln (played by Sally Field). The crew also filmed in nearby Petersburg at locations like the Centre Hill Museum, which Abraham Lincoln visited in April 1865. Petersburg’s Union Station was transformed for the film into a Washington, D.C., federal building while the land north of the station was converted into a village of horses, carriages and wagons.

More big-screen scenes:

Petersburg also served as the backdrop for several scenes in the popular 2003 Civil War love story “Cold Mountain.” Other movies filmed in parts of Richmond include “The Jackal,” “Evan Almighty,” “The Contender,” “Lolita” and “Hannibal.”

Atlantic Coast, North Carolina

Beautiful Beach Setting in Outer Banks, North Carolina

From Richmond, head southeast to this barrier island. It’s easy to see why beautiful Rodanthe was the backdrop for the 2008 love story “Nights in Rodanthe,” based on the best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks. By visiting some of the memorable film sites, you’ll get a wonderful introduction to the local lifestyle. An oceanfront house, The Inn at Rodanthe, underwent a major makeover before filming began. The cottage with the bright blue shutters is available for rent, but be warned: Reservations are competitive. Take your binoculars to another filming spot, the 2,361-hectare Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for more than 360 species of birds. Along the narrow, scenic Highway 12, the film showcased the wild Banker ponies that have lived in the Outer Banks for more than 400 years. Take a ferry to Ocracoke Island, where a few scenes were shot, and tour sites like the Ocracoke Lighthouse and Teach’s Hole Blackbeard Exhibit and Pirate Specialty Shop.

More big-screen scenes:

A section of the Cape Lookout National Seashore on the southern Outer Banks was the backdrop for a scene in the 1991 film “The Butcher’s Wife.” The 1983 movie “Brainstorm” had several scenes shot on the Outer Banks, including at the Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kill Devil Hills.

On Set Throughout Wilmington, North Carolina

Continue south to Wilmington, the coastal city known as “Hollywood East,” which has served as home to more than 400 films and TV shows, from blockbusters like “Iron Man 3” to independent films and TV series. The diverse geography and beautiful surroundings – including a charming downtown riverfront, rural countryside and three expansive beaches – make the area an ideal location. For on-set experiences, check for tours at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, Wilmington’s sound stage lot with more than 350 film, television and commercial projects completed since 1985. After touring, dine like the stars at Catch, a Gwyneth Paltrow favorite during “Iron Man 3” filming, or Ports of Call in Southport, where Julianne Hough celebrated her 23rd birthday during filming of “Safe Haven.” Just 48 kilometers south of Wilmington, Southport served as the backdrop for “Safe Haven,” based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. Nearby, stroll through Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, the location for the kiss between Hough’s character Katie and Alex (played by Josh Duhamel).

More big-screen scenes:

Experience more on-screen locations yourself and tour sites in Wilmington-filmed movies, including “Sleeping with the Enemy,” “Weekend at Bernie’s,” “A Walk to Remember,” “Empire Records,” “We’re the Millers” and “The Conjuring.”

Capturing the Charm of Charleston, South Carolina

As you continue into South Carolina, picture yourself walking cobblestone streets under a canopy of trees. The pretty, port city of Charleston beckons with Southern hospitality and historic sites that take visitors back a few hundred years. With natural beaches nearby, it’s no wonder the city has seen a boom in filming as movie-makers try to capture all that charm and natural beauty on land and by the sea.  “Notebook” stars Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling shot several scenes inside old Charleston-area plantations, such as the Boone Hall Plantation and the Calhoun Mansion. Stroll along The Battery, a landmark defensive seawall and promenade, to walk in the same steps as actors and actresses. Explore America’s oldest landscaped gardens at Middleton Place, which also served as the backdrop for scenes in “The Patriot.” Take a 30-minute drive north to Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, which has been showcased in numerous films.

More big-screen scenes:

Interest in filming in Charleston began growing in the mid-1990s with films like “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys,” “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” “The Jackal,” “Nutty Professor II” and Pat Conroy’s “The Prince of Tides.” More recent feature films like “Dear John,” another Nicholas Sparks-based title, and the epic TV Civil War mini-series “North and South” continued to put the city on the screen

End Scene in Savannah, Georgia

One of the best things about your last stop, Savannah, are the 22 public squares in the riverfront city’s Historic District. These shaded parks beckon visitors to sit for a spell while taking in the surroundings. Around the squares, you’ll see historic houses, museums, ornate cathedrals, cafes, theaters and hot spots for nightlife. Explore on foot or catch a trolley to see them all and be amazed at the history that dates to the late 1600s. In 1997, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” revealed Savannah’s beauty to international audiences unfamiliar with this hauntingly majestic city. The film’s scenes were shot all over the town, including at The Mercer Williams House, beautiful Forsyth Park, the Tomochichi Federal Building (a national historic landmark), Churchill’s Pub and the haunting Bonaventure Cemetery. While the bench that Tom Hanks sat on in “Forrest Gump” is now in Savannah’s History Museum, the legendary bus stop scene was filmed in Chippewa Square. The 1991 thriller “Cape Fear” shot several scenes in Savannah, as did the Robert Redford-directed “The Legend of Bagger Vance,” which was set in Savannah and filmed throughout South Carolina. The movie tells the story of disillusioned war veteran and Savannah native Captain Rannulph Junah, who learns to master the game of golf in a state known for its golf courses.

Must-see list:

While you head to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to catch a flight home, think about all of the films you need to see to help you relive your Southern movie scene journey.
