VISITS INDIAN COAST GUARD SHIP AT CHENNAI TODAY

   Chennai 13th Mar 2018

  The Governor-General of the commonwealth of Australia HE the Honorable General Sir Peter Cosgrove, AK, MC (Retired) visited onboard ICGS Shaurya and interacted with Inspector General Rajan Bargotra, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) and the ship’s crew on 13 Mar 2018. The visit of the Governor General provided opp ortunity for interaction between the two countries and helped in getting insight in co-operative ngagements between ma ritime forces of both countries. This visit will go a long way in fostering inter operability between the two mar itime forces. The Governor General was accompanied with HE MS Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India and HE Mr. A M Gondane, Indian High Commissioner to Australia.

            The cooperation between the ICG and Australian Border Force (ABF) started in 2002 when Australia par ticipated in a Maritime Search and Rescue conference hosted by Indian Coast Guard and the cooperation has got strengthen over the years between the two countries. ICG ship Sankalp undertook maiden goodwill visit to Dar win, Australia from   04–08 Dec 14 as part of international cooperation.

            Australian Border Force ship ‘Ocean Shield’ also visited Chennai from 18-20 May 17 furthering the goodwill and professional relationship between the two maritime forces.   Recently, ICGS Vaibhav has visited Darwin, Austr alia from 21 Feb to 25 Feb 18 for fostering inter operability between the two maritime forces.
