The 94th College Day celebration at Loyola College Chennai, founded in the year 1925 by Rev Fr Francis Bertram,

The 94th College Day celebration at Loyola College Chennai, founded in the year 1925 by Rev Fr Francis Bertr am, SJ, will be held on March 15, 2019, at 5:30 pm. Loyola has been in the service of the society for 94 years and it strives to achieve all-round development of students apart from academic excellence. The academically cond ucive atmosphere in Loyola helps students shine in their chosen career path after completing their studies. Loy ola College additionally engages in taking special efforts to assist physically challenged students and students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Consul General Robert. G. Burgess will preside over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. He assumed the post of Consul General, U.S. Consulate General Chennai on August 6, 2017. Among his responsibilities, he was eager to promote U.S-India relationships in the Southern Indian States and Southern Indian Islands. His illustrious career, far before he attained his current post, includes serving as the Director of the Office of the Regional Affairs in t he bureau of South and Central Asia at the State Department in Washington DC. Prior to that, he was Deputy Ch ief of Mission in Dushanbe,

Tajikistan and travelled extensively on diplomatic missions to several Middle East a nd Central Asian countries. In addition, he was also Deputy Director of the Office of Central Asian Affairs.Du ri ng the event, the Consul Gen eral will address the students and staff, distribute medals to 87 meritorious stu dents, and distribute co-curric ular awards to students and awards for best outgoing students. A jubilarian and the faculty and staff who are retiring this year will also be honoured during this occasion. Acknowledgement of research, 100% attendance and the best faculty and staff will also be observed.

The other dignitaries who will grace the occasion are Rev. Fr. A.M. Jayapathy Francis SJ, Rector, Rev. Dr D. Selvan ayakam SJ, Secretary & Correspondent, and Rev. Dr F. Andrew, SJ, Principal. Officials of the college, Heads of va rious departments, Coordinators, professors and the administrative staff will also be present. The programme will be organised under the guidance of Rev. Dr F. Andrew, SJ, Principal, Loyola College, Chennai.
