NCC OCEAN SAILING EXPEDITION “SAMUDRAGAMI”  GETS FLAGGED OFF BY THIRU KAMALAKANNAN, HON’BLE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION, PUDUCHERRY

 Chennai,  10 Jul 2019           

            Ocean Sailing Expedition “Samudragami” being undertaken by 65 Cadets from NCC Group Puducherry under the aegis of NCC Directorate Tamilnadu, Pondicherry & Andaman Directorate was flagged off yesterday morning in a colourful function by Hon’ble Education Minister of Puducherry Thiru. Kamalakannan from Then gaithittu harbour in the presence of Deputy Director General NCC Directorate (TN,P & AN) Commodore Malay K Kukreti and Col K Jayachandran, Group Commander, NCC Puducherry.

            The Expedition is sailing from Thengaithittu to Karaikal thr ough Cuddalore. Parangipettai, Pazhayar, Tha rangampadi and Ka raikal.  On the return leg they will sail up to Kalapet and culm inate the expedition at Then gathittu thus covering a total dist ance of around 406 km.  During the expedition the team will be under tak ing Social Service activities like Pollution Awareness Drives, Coa stal Cleaning, Tree Plantation and Adventure ac tivities like Scuba Diving and Kayaking.

            The Sailing Expedition consists of 25 Girl Cadets and 35 Boy Cadets from Puducherry and Tamilnadu and is organised by the NCC Group, Puducherry under the aegis of NCC Directorate (TN,P & AN), Chennai.  The Pudu cherry NCC Group functions under the Directorate of Education and the Education Minister has been taking ver y keen interest in the NCC activities providing guidance, monetary assistance and support for all their ventures.  In the speech he has exhorted all cadets to remain true to the NCC motto of “Unity and Discipline” and complim ented them for volunteering for this arduous task. 

Commodore Malay K Kukreti, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate (TN,P & AN), himself a Marine Com mando, stressed on the importance of inculcating adventure spirit in the youth.  Mr. Djeamourthy, MLA of Ariya nkuppam Constituency, Puducherry in his speech lauded the cadets for undertaking such an adventurous expe dition.  Col K. Jayachandran, Group Commander NCC Group Puducherry thanked the Education Minster a nd all the depart me nts who helped in organising this mega event.

On interacting with the cadets, they expressed their joy in getting selected for the expedition. They said that they had undergone extensive training in sailing and survival techniques before undertaking this mission.
