Over 4000 Students Participate in ‘Aadi Perukku’ Celebration at Dr MGR Janaki Women’s College.

Over 4,000 students of Dr. MGR-Janaki Women’s College celebrated Aadi Peruk ku, a Tamil festival observed on the eigh teenth day of the Tamil month of Aadi to express gratitude for rivers. Donning hal f-sarees and sarees, students performed many traditional practices, capturing th0 e essence of the occasion.
During the celebration, students partic ipated in the ‘mulaipari’ worship, carryi ng earthen pots filled with sprouts from nine different types of grains and legum es. The girls floated lamps in a small pon d, in a symbolic.
To add to the festivity, students perform ance med traditional folk dances during the occasion and included ‘Devarattam’, ‘Karakattam’, ‘Puliyaattam’, ‘Oyilattam’, ‘Sakkaiyaattam’, ‘Poikaal Kuthiraiyatta m’, ‘Mayilattam’, and Dance Drama. Spe cial children also performed a dance, an d students from Agaram took part in the occasion. Altogether it was a spectacula ar sight and replication of celebrations i ndigenous to villages. LLP

The event also featured experts discussi ssing the social, cultural, and environme ental significance of Aadi Perukku, as well as traditional practices, music, and dance forms of Tamil culture.
