Movie Review-

Ashwanth Ashok Kumar (the kid who played a small role in Super Deluxe) is a major asset to the film. His per for mance as a kid who has the stammering problem is fantabulous. He matched Prabhudeva equally. Definitely, As hwanth will have a bright future ahead. Prabhudeva perfectly suits his role. His screen presence, charisma, and dancing skills are very much spot on and entertain big time. Dancing sensation Prabhu Deva is making a comeba ck as an actor after a longtime with My Dear Bhootam. The film directed by Raghavan is releasing on July 15,202 2. Let us see what My Dear Bhootam offered to movie lovers. The bonding between the kid and Prabhudeva is well depicted.

The entire first half is high on entertainment. The story is well established in the initial hour and sets the tempo for the next hour. This movie has enough content to appeal to kids. Ramya is decent in her role as the kid’s mot her.  Srinu (Ashwanth Ashok Kumar) suffers from stammering and due to this, his mother (Ramya Nambeesan) tu rns over protective monitoring even the small activities, while in the school other kids tease him and the tea ch ers including (Samukutha) insult them. In the midst of all this, Srinu comes across a statue that releases Karna (Prabhu Deva). To unravel more about Karna and where it leads Srinu, watch My Dear Bhootam on the screen. Compared to the first half, the second half slows down.

After a point of time, things get repetitive and boring. The story is something which we have been seeing in num erous films of this kind. The treatment is outdated and it feels like watching an old movie. Director Raghavan tr ied to drive home the point to encourage specially abled children instead of restricting or insulting them by addi ng fantasy elements into it. Raghavan starts the narration by showing the problems faced by Srinu and then bala nced it in such a way that the story is not loaded with full of emotions with the introduction of Prabhu Deva. The scenes involving Ashwath and Prabhu Deva are filled with hilarious scenes and so too are the songs. There are m any scenes that appeal to kids and children under the age group of 5 -6 years.

The VFX is a big letdown. As the film is set in the fantasy genre, one expects visual effects to be good. But sadly this aspect disappoints. The film doesn’t appeal much to adults. However, the problem starts when Raghavan co mpletely ignored the other sections. While some of the scenes involving Prabhu Deva and Ashwath attract chil dren, there are scenes that test the patience of the viewers. Raghavan drew inspiration from the TV shows and Alauddin Adbhuta Deepam etc and so the story lacks freshness. The screenplay and direction are ok to an exte nt. The climax is another disappointment that is not handled well and one finds it silly. The drama between the kid and his mother is not portrayed properly. The film goes flat without any twists and turns.

It gets predictable completely. Prabhu Deva entertains children with his performance and antics as the Bhoot am. Ashwath Ashok Kumar did well showing various emotions as a kid suffering from stammering. Ramya Nam beesan did well as a protective mother and others performed according to their roles. Director N. Ragavan did a decent job in handling this fantasy drama. He established his point well but he could have done a lot better. The VFX team should have taken a lot more care as the visuals are not good on screen. They seem a bit odd in many places. The cinematography is decent enough. Music by Imman is fine and the background score is extraordinary. The editing is crisp.

San Lokesh’s editing could have been better as at times the narration pace dipped due to repetitive scenes. Mu sic of Imman is ok and BGM is good. Cinematography of Senthil Kumar is in sync with the story. Dialogues are ok. Production values are good.  Ashwath,Prabhu Deva Disadvantages ,Predictable narration Raghavan’s My Dear Bhootam is a film targeted at children. To some extent, Raghavan achieves his goal but the emotional scenes and dialogues put them off. The film has very less hilarious elements and runs more on emotions that are predictable which tests the patience of the elders. Raghavan missed the plot in trying to entertain children and at the same time attract elders. Considering all these elements, CJ goes with a 2 rating for My Dear Bhootam. On the whole, My Dear Bootham has a largely entertaining first half and an average second half.

The director  started off quite well but lost his grip in the latter part. This fantasy drama has enough elements to appeal to the kids, but for others, it ends up as a passable watch. You can give this a try if you love fantasy drama.
