MoU with Russia’s Almazov National M edical Research Centre for Collaborativ e Diabetes Research

1. Partnership to research and advance new diagnostics and treatment strateg ies for diabetes, particularly Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

2. Institutions to also collaborate on re search on emerging fields like artificial intelligence and precision medicine in diabetes care.

Chennai, May 23rd, 2025: The Madras D iabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), a Global Leader in Diabetes Research, has entered into a strategic research collab oration with the Almazov National Medi cal Research Centre, based in Saint Pete rsburg, Russia. This partnership marks a significant step toward advancing intern ational research in diabetes and its relat ed fields.

The Almazov Centre, a leading medical r esearch institution under the Ministry o f Health of the Russian Federation, and MDRF will collaborate on several key ar eas including the development of new d iagnostics and treatment strategies for diabetes, particularly Gestational Diabe tes Mellitus (GDM), as well as emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and precision medicine in diabetes care.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. V.M ohan, and Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto, Direc tor General of the Almazov Centre. As p art of the agreement, the two institutio ns will engage in the training and exchan ge of medical specialists, joint scientific conferences and academic meetings, co ollaborative research publications, and the development of educational and cul tural exchange programmes.

Speaking on the collaboration, Dr. V. Mo han – Chairman of MDRF said, “This part nership signifies a shared commitment t o tackling one of the most pressing glob al health challenges—diabetes—through scientific innovation and international c ooperation. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to jointly explore the potential of AI and precision medici ne to transform diabetes care.”

In conjunction with the signing ceremon y, Dr. Mohan was invited to deliver a key note lecture on “The Application of Artif icial Intelligence in Diabetes Manageme nt” at the prestigious 8th Saint Petersbu rg Medical Innovation Forum held at the Almazov Centre.

Further to the signing of the MoU, resea rchers from both institutions have com menced joint projects focusing on gesta tional diabetes. The collaboration involv es Dr. Polina V. Popova and her team fro m the Department of Endocrinology at t he Almazov Centre, and Dr. Mohan and his colleagues from MDRF, with plans to expand the scope of their joint research initiatives in the coming months.

This landmark partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the global scientific community’s understanding of diabetes and foster impactful solutions to improve patient care.
