Dubai-Based software professional Venkatesh Sankar brings unique musical concert ‘RRR(Reel Real Raga)’ to Chennai with leading playback singers*

*A novel musical initiative that bridges classical ragas and popular film songs across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema*

Though not widely known to Tamil cinema audiences himself, Dubai-based software professional Venkatesh Sankar is the proud father of former child actress Sadhana, who won acclaim for her performance in the film ‘Thanga Meenkal’.

Driven by a deep and enduring passion for music, Venkatesh Sankar has launched an innovative musical venture — RRR (Reel Real Raga) — aimed at demystifying classical ragas for general audiences through popular film songs. He is conducting this in association with The CenterStage, a cutting-edge digital platform designed to discover and celebrate talent from around the globe. Mrs. Anshu Kapoor, CEO of Centerstage, has expressed pride to associate with RRR.

Following the overwhelming success of the show in Dubai, he is now bringing RRR (Reel Real Raga) to Chennai. This distinctive musical event is designed to explain how classical Indian ragas are ingeniously woven into popular film songs — making them accessible and engaging even to those unfamiliar with classical music.

The Chennai edition of RRR (Reel Real Raga) will be held on August 16 at 6:00 PM at the RR Sabha Main Hall in Mylapore. Entry to the event is by invitation.

The concert will feature an impressive line-up of acclaimed playback singers including Palakkad Sreeram, Sathyaprakash, Shankar Ganesh ajar Balaji, Wow Karthik, Kannan S.K., Gokul Prasad, Ashok Ramamurthy, Venkatesh, Disha Prakash, and Madhu Iyer. They will be accompanied by a grand 12-piece live orchestra, performing well-known songs from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema — each accompanied by an insightful explanation of its underlying raga.

Speaking about the initiative, Venkatesh Sankar shared, “When I first began exploring music, I was often confused as to why certain film songs across languages sounded so similar. Through in-depth research, I discovered that it was the commonality of ragas that created this resemblance. This realisation inspired me to create a platform that could share this knowledge with the wider public — and thus, RRR was born.”

In a generous gesture, around 200 senior citizens from old age homes will be specially invited to attend the Chennai concert. Rotary Club of Chennai Towers had come forward to take care of their travel and food expenses. Venkatesh Sankar also revealed that following Chennai, he plans to take RRR (Reel Real Raga) to various cities around the world, making it a global celebration of Indian musical heritage.

He invites all music lovers to attend and experience this one-of-a-kind musical journey that celebrates the harmony between classical tradition and cinematic creativity.
