Story -:

If you don’t know the story of the movie Padayappa, people in Tamil Nadu will ask if you even know the first letter ‘A’ of the Tamil alphabet. Even though everyone knows the story, here’s a quick recap. Rajinikanth, having earned a lot of money, comes to his hometown for a vacation. There, Rajinikan th’s family is the most influential in the village.

They are the ones who arrange all the marriages in the village in front of the deity Arupadaiyappan. There is an unwritten rule that the marriage will only take place with the consent of both the man and the woman; otherwise, the marriage will not happen.

At this time, Rajinikanth falls in love with Soundarya, a girl from the village, while Rajinikanth’s cousin, Ramya Krishnan, is also in love with him. Rajinikanth, however, marries Soundarya. What happens next? Neelambari, still harboring the same hatred even after 18 years, plots her revenge against Padayappa. The rest of the story is about what happens afterward.

Movie Review -:

In 1996, Rajinikanth’s opposition to Jayalalithaa created a massive ripple effect in Tamil Nadu politics, and many newspapers wrote that Rajinikanth’s opposition to Jayalalithaa was one of the reasons for the DMK’s rise to power.
Along with this, a situation arose in Tamil Nadu where it was believed that Rajinikanth would definitely enter politics, and the entire media spotlight fell on the gates of Poes Garden. But Rajinikanth, as usual, kept distancing himself, saying, “Why do we need a party now?” Amidst such massive expectations, Padayappa shattered all industry records.

To add to this, it’s noteworthy that the record set by Padayappa was broken by Rajinikanth’s subsequent film, Chandramukhi. Padayappa achieved tremendous success not only in Tamil Nadu but also in Telugu, collecting nearly 14 crores in Telugu, which shocked even Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna, who were at the peak of their careers at that time.

Although Rahman’s music in the film Muthu was widely discussed, there was a feeling that it did not satisfy Rajinikanth’s fans. Perhaps because of this, Rahman delivered a masterclass in mass music in Padayappa.
In particular, the background music he composed for the scene where Rajinikanth brings down the swing was so powerful that the whistle sounds from the audience pierced through the DTS sound system in the theaters and even outside.

As an added piece of information, it was Harris Jayaraj, who was working as a program engineer at the time, who suggested placing such music in that particular scene. Padayappa has stepped into the digital age today, 25 years later. In this era, where people question and hold accountable those who portray women negatively, Padayappa seemed like a regressive film to some.

So, how will it appeal to this generation? Today’s fans are in a celebratory and vibrant mood. Everything that appeals to them is abundantly present in Padayappa. From Rajinikanth’s intro scene where he puts his hand into a snake’s burrow, to holding down a runaway bull by its leg, to warning Neelambari with the line “Last but not least,” to “Don’t see this other side of Padayappa,” “Excuse me, my wife is doing very well,” and “You haven’t aged at all,” many scenes are met with whistles and cheers.

And the swing scene, in particular, made the audience in the theater erupt with the sound of a thousand firecrackers, both literally and through their whistles and cheers. While the quality isn’t quite up to the level we saw on Sun TV, they have delivered an excellent job to the best of their ability. In Short this padayappa spectacle will be celebrated by families together, not just in 1999, but even in 2025 or 2050.

This Is My Personal Review So Please Go and Watch The Movie In Theaters Only.
