Story -:
*Nizhal* is a film directed by A.K. Kumar, featuring Janani, Visakan, Kaushik, Hariharan Raju, Ramesh Khanna, and Divya Krishnan. The female lead, Janani (daughter of actor Ramesh Khanna), works as a doctor and is in love with Sub-Inspector Visakan. Amidst this, a woman is raped and brutally burned to death at the hospital.
Subsequently, Janani brutally attacks Hariharan Raju—the son of the hospital owner—and his two friends, leaving them incapacitated and hospitalized.
Sub-Inspector Visakan takes up the investigation and discovers that Janani was the one who attacked them. The rest of the film *Nizhal* reveals the reason behind Janani’s brutal assault on the three men and whether or not Sub-Inspector Visakan uncovers the motive.

‘Nizhal’ is a film centered on themes of violence against women, the quest for justice, and the functioning of the legal system. Beyond being a mere tale of revenge, the film attempts to portray the emotional anguish of victims and the darker side of society.
Janani, known for her stint on *Bigg Boss*, plays the central character, Ramya. She appears as a woman who sets out to track down the perpetrators following a series of tragic events that befall her family. Her ability to express emotions and anger with a sense of balance is a highlight of her performance; her portrayal, particularly in scenes involving family dynamics, lends authenticity to the character.
Vishakan, playing a police officer, commands attention during key plot twists. His character—striving to tackle crime within the confines of the law—adds substance to the narrative. He delivers a measured performance across both action-packed and emotionally charged sequences.
Kaushik, appearing as a lawyer, effectively supports the progression of the story during courtroom scenes. Supporting actors such as Divya Krishnan, Ramesh Khanna, Sabitha Anand, and Abhishek Shankar have handled their roles competently. Sivan Srinivasan’s portrayal of a father fighting for his son—who has made poor life choices—is particularly noteworthy.
Director A.K. Kumar has endeavored to keep the narrative—centered on crime and punishment—fast-paced and engaging. It is significant that the screenplay incorporates topical social issues such as women’s safety, legal procedures, and the complexities involved in securing justice.
Mohankumar’s cinematography successfully captures the requisite mood for the scenes; the night sequences and moments of high tension are particularly well-rendered on screen. The songs, composed by Abubacker, blend seamlessly with the story’s flow without causing disruption, while the background score effectively heightens the sense of suspense in several instances. Editor Dinesh’s work is another key strength of the film. With a runtime of just 104 minutes, the movie dives straight into the story without unnecessary stretches, ensuring the screenplay remains brisk and engaging throughout.
At the same time, the impact of a limited budget is evident in certain scenes, and the performances of some supporting actors could have been more polished. However, the core premise and the underlying social message help one overlook these shortcomings to some extent.
Overall, *Nizhal*—centered on crimes against women and the ensuing quest for justice—is a film that will not disappoint audiences who appreciate thrillers with a social message. A gripping screenplay, Janani’s strong performance, and a narrative rooted in a social context stand out as the film’s major strengths.
