Story -:
Ravi Maria, an idler who drifts aimlessly without a job and scrapes by on money earned from staging fake protests, strikes it lucky when he crosses paths with the wealthy Radha Ravi. Planning to play a political game in Tamil Nadu using his vast fortune, Radha Ravi decides to use Ravi Maria as a pawn; he launches Ravi Maria as a film hero and subsequently establishes a political party under his leadership.
Ravi Maria blindly follows Radha Ravi’s instructions. Instead of engaging in genuine public service, he relies on manufactured publicity to easily connect with the masses and rapidly emerges as a “people’s leader.”
As election day approaches, Radha Ravi joins the party himself, but Ravi Maria meets with an accident and is sent abroad for advanced medical treatment. This triggers a crucial question: who will be the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate? Radha Ravi makes a bold, unexpected decision that turns Tamil Nadu’s political history upside down. *Makkal Thalaiva* is a satirical take on contemporary politics that explores the consequences of this move and reveals the underlying motives behind Radha Ravi’s political game.

Movie Review -:
Ravi Mariya, known for his roles as a villain and a comedian, has flawlessly executed his duties as the film’s protagonist. Audiences get to see a side of him never witnessed before—performing in a romantic song and delivering political speeches. While his acting style remains consistent, he has strengthened the film by impeccably portraying the character of ‘Tamil Kudimagan’ (Tamil Citizen).
Radha Ravi plays a Tamilian holding a high-ranking position in a leading multinational company; through his performance, he brings to life the reality that with money and the strategic knowledge of how to use it, one can easily achieve political success.
Pazha Karuppiah portrays a politician who clings to outdated political methods in this modern, tech-driven era—highlighting both his own pathetic state and the precarious position in which he lands his party; he manages to evoke laughter through his acting and dialogue delivery.
The supporting cast fits their roles perfectly: Nanjil Sampath represents the ‘fence-sitting’ politicians who accept bribes; Ganja Karuppu plays the protagonist’s friend who gets lucky enough to become a minister; Agni S. Varun plays another friend; Director Perarasu appears as an auto-rickshaw driver who objects to being overcharged by ten rupees for a liquor bottle; Bayilvan Ranganathan plays a YouTuber; and Akshara Vijay appears briefly in a single song sequence as the female lead.
Cinematographer Karthik S. Nair has captured high-quality visuals using the available resources. He brings variety by filming specific locations from diverse angles and makes even ordinary settings visually appealing.
The songs, featuring music and lyrics by Thulasiraman, are engaging and possess commercial appeal, while the background score complements the scenes effectively. Editor Durgesh deserves praise for trimming the length of the scenes—despite the abundance of dialogue-heavy sequences—and keeping the film’s total runtime under two hours.
Director Ramdev has crafted a screenplay centered on the shifting landscape of Tamil Nadu politics and the emergence of new players; he boldly exposes the political wheeling and dealing that takes place behind the scenes of those who rise to power.
While the story and scenes are fictional, they mirror real-life political events, making for an engaging watch; however, at certain points, the screenplay falters—suggesting that the director, who also acted in the film, became as confused as his own character, losing sight of the intended narrative direction.
For a Tamil audience accustomed to political satire, Ramdev succeeds in both entertaining and provoking thought regarding current political shifts; had he paid closer attention to the screenplay and scene execution, the film might have created a massive impact akin to *Ammavasai Arasiyal*.
All in all, *Makkal Thalaiva* fails to leave a lasting impression on the minds of the audience.
