Karunas plays the role of Thavasi, a humble fisherman from Rameswaram. To make ends meet, he takes up various odd jobs; notably, he earns a living by diving underwater to collect the coins tossed into the sea by people performing rituals for their ancestors.
In the midst of this, he finds an ancient gold ornament—a discovery that turns his life upside down. An ordinary man who hands the jewelry over to the police with good intentions unexpectedly finds himself accused of theft.
The subsequent events and the narrative unfolding around the police and the judicial system form the core of the film *Enna Vilai*.
The law punishes an individual if they commit a wrong. However, if the system itself makes a flawed decision regarding an innocent person’s life, who bears responsibility for the devastating impact on that individual and their family? The film poses this crucial question.
Director Sajeev Pazhoor succeeds in making the audience feel the weight of this theme through the characters’ lives, rather than merely conveying it through dialogue.
