The Grand Master – A Socially Thought-provoking Work!
From time to time, movies with good stories are released in Tamil cinema and attract the attention of the fans. Especially, the recent release of many films with different storylines, social concern and new ventures shows the healthy growth of Tamil cinema. The main reason for this is the reception of small budget films and newcomer directors among the fans.
In that line, the film ‘The Grand Master’, which is releasing on Friday this week, is attracting attention with a different storyline.
Directed by Vetrichelvan, the film focuses on important issues in the society and moves the story. The highlight of the film is that the social concept is told naturally with the flow of the story without any propaganda tone.
The story travels on two platforms, on one hand the emotional mother-son relationship and on the other hand the dream of a boy amid social barriers. In particular, the boy’s dream of achieving success in chess and the social environment that opposes that dream lay a strong foundation for the story.
Aparnathy has given a very natural performance in the character of Villiyamma. Her performance as a mother fighting for her son’s future is touching. The moments where he struggles to understand his son’s dream in the beginning, then realizes his son’s talent and supports his dream are well placed.
