Story-:

Ryland Grace awakens from a coma on a spacecraft. Initially erratic with retrograde amnesia, Grace discovers that he is the sole survivor of three, and that he is light years away from Earth in a distant star system.

Grace slowly remembers that he is a middle school science teacher and former molecular biologist. Scientists observe the Sun dimming, coinciding with the formation of an infrared line from the Sun to Venus called the Petrova line. The dimming, caused by a microorganism known as Astrophage exponentially increasing its population on the Sun’s surface, will result in a catastrophic global cooling of Earth within 30 years. Government agent Eva Stratt recruits Grace and other scientists to study Astrophage.

Grace discovers that Astrophage is a cell which is impenetrable to any form of electromagnetic radiation, and that it breeds on Venus via the planet’s carbon dioxide and energy from the Sun. Researchers also find Astrophage to be a very effective, but volatile, fuel source. It has infected other stars within our solar neighborhood. Stratt discloses Project Hail Mary, a plan to send a crew on a suicide mission to Tau Ceti, the only undimmed nearby star. The Hail Mary spacecraft only has enough Astrophage as fuel for a one-way trip, but will carry probes to send the crew’s findings back to Earth.

In the present, as Grace approaches Tau Ceti, he sees an alien spacecraft. The spacecraft, which docks with the Hail Mary, is made of “xenonite” (solid xenon). The pilot of the other ship is a rock-like, five-legged alien from 40 Eridani, whom Grace names “Rocky” after the Eridian’s body and Rocky Balboa.

Grace deduces that Eridians see via echolocation, and creates a machine translation system for Rocky’s musical speech. Rocky explains that he is a mechanic and also the sole survivor of a mission to stop the Astrophage. Neither can survive in the other’s atmosphere, so Rocky enters Hail Mary using a small, pressurized ball as a spacesuit.

In the past, Grace meets the commander, engineer, and scientist for Hail Mary, along with their backups. While handling Astrophage, a mishap kills the scientist and backup three days before launch. With no time to train a replacement, Stratt requests that Grace take the place of the deceased scientists. When Grace refuses to go, Stratt has him drugged and forcibly put on Hail Mary.

Following Tau Ceti’s Petrova line, Grace and Rocky find that the planet Tau Ceti e—which they name “Adrian” after Rocky’s mate and Adrian Pennino—harbors an organism which preys on Astrophage, controlling its population. After learning that Grace cannot return home, Rocky offers enough Astrophage to refuel Hail Mary. While gathering the organism from the upper atmosphere of Adrian, a fuel leak causes an uncontrollable spin which renders Grace unconscious. Rocky breaks his spacesuit and saves Grace, but is severely injured. While Rocky recovers in hibernation, Grace finds a way to breed the Astrophage-consuming organism, which he calls “Taumoeba.” Rocky revives, and he and Grace part as friends, to return to their respective solar systems.

During the trip to Earth, Grace discovers that Taumoeba has evolved the ability to pass through their xenonite containers and is eating Hail Mary’s fuel. Grace fixes the problem on his ship, but realizes that Rocky’s entire ship is made of xenonite, which will allow the Taumoeba to consume all of his fuel. Left with the choice of returning to Earth or saving Rocky and his homeworld, Grace chooses to save his friend, sending Taumoeba and his research to Earth via the probes.

The probes deliver to Stratt on Earth what humanity needs to kill Astrophages. The Eridians create a biodome on their planet for Grace to live in. Rocky tells him that scientists have finished preparing Hail Mary to return to Earth. While contemplating the news, Grace begins another day of teaching science to Eridian children.

Movie Review -:

‘Project Hail Mary’ – A Sci-Fi Experience That Revives Hope. Science fiction films typically tend to feature dystopian visions of the future. However, *Project Hail Mary*—created by the directorial duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller—deviates from this convention, standing out as a refreshing work centered on themes of hope, intellect, and human collaboration.
Based on the novel by Andy Weir, the film revolves around mysterious microorganisms that are slowly destroying the Sun.

As Earth hurtles toward catastrophic destruction due to this threat, nations across the globe unite in an attempt to find a solution. Joining this endeavor is Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a high school science teacher who has lost his sense of self-confidence. A Key highlight of the film lies in its narrative style. Rather than feeling tedious, scientific explanations are seamlessly woven into the flow of the story, emerging naturally within the plot. The protagonist’s journey to recover his memories serves simultaneously to introduce the story’s backstory to the audience.

Consequently, the film strikes a perfect balance between scientific rigor and emotional depth.Another strength of *Project Hail Mary* is its inherently positive outlook. Themes of global cooperation, faith in science, and human resilience are prominently showcased throughout the film. In the current global climate, such portrayals serve to instill a renewed sense of hope.

At the same time, the film’s runtime may be perceived as a minor drawback. Had certain scenes been trimmed or condensed, the pacing could have been even more brisk and engaging. All in all, *Project Hail Mary* transcends the realm of a typical science fiction film to become an experience that fosters hope and unity. In an era often dominated by darker narratives, such a commendable effort stands out as truly noteworthy.

Today is an exciting day for fans of space and science fiction (Sci-Fi) films! Based on the world-renowned novel by Andy Weir and starring Ryan Gosling, the film *Project Hail Mary* has officially been released in India today (Thursday, March 26, 2026).
The film was originally scheduled for release on March 20th. However, to avoid a box office clash with the Bollywood blockbuster *Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge*, its release was postponed to today’s date. Currently, the film is receiving a tremendous reception in multiplex theaters across India.

It is being screened in multiple languages—making it accessible to Indian audiences—and features advanced technological enhancements. Given that this is another work by Andy Weir—the author behind *The Martian*—there was immense global anticipation to see how Ryan Gosling would portray the character Ryland Grace. Reviews suggest that, particularly in IMAX and 4DX formats, audiences can experience the sensation of space travel firsthand on the big screen.

Plot: The film depicts—with scientific accuracy—the story of a lone individual battling in space to save the entire human race from extinction. Box Office: Although its scheduled release on March 20th was postponed, the film has finally hit theaters today as a solo release; consequently, it is expected to gross ₹15–20 crores in India alone during its opening weekend.
If you are an avid science fiction fan, watching this film on Dolby Cinema or IMAX screens will provide you with a superior audio-visual experience. Running for 2 hours and 36 minutes, this movie is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
