Twelve Years of Service, Gone Overnight: 400 Families

Twelve Years of Service, Gone Overnigh t: 400 Families Plead for Justice After Sudden Job Loss in Tamil Nadu Health Scheme Shake-Up

Chennai, August 9, 2025 — For over a decade, they worked quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes in the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health InsuranceScheme, ensuring patients across 14 districts received timely claim approvals — even during floods, the peak of COVID-19, and other crises.

On August 5th, their world collapsed. The government insurance agency abruptly reduced MD India’s allocation from 14 districts to just 4, with no clear explanation. The remaining districts were reassigned to other TPAs. Overnight, 400 employees and their dependents were left staring at an uncertain future.

“We missed our children’s birthdays, worked through every festival, and risked our lives during the pandemic — and this is how it ends?” said a tearful field officer. “We only want justice, not sympathy.”

Doctors, district coordinators, and staff gathered together in a rare public display of anguish, appealing to the government to step in. Their plea is not just about retaining jobs — it’s about safeguarding the livelihood of hundreds of families, honouring a spotless service record, and recognising the human cost of a decision made without warning.

During the COVID lockdown, these employees went out when most stayed in, assisting hospitals, government offices, and patients in distress. They braved monsoon floods and scorching heat to ensure the scheme never faltered.

Now, many fear they will be unable to pay school fees, care for ailing parents, or meet loan repayments. “Tell us what our fault is,” their representative pleaded. “We served with loyalty for 12 years — don’t cast us aside like we never existed.”

The employees’ collective cry now echoes across Tamil Nadu, asking a simple question that resonates far beyond state borders: Is this how we treat those who gave everything in service to the public?
