FIDE World School Team Chess Championship 2025

Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School has emerged as the Champion in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) World School Team Chess Championship 2025, held at Episcopal High School, Washington D.C., USA, from August 2 to 7, 2025.
For the first time, a team from India — representing Tamil Nadu’s Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School — travelled to the United States to participate in this prestigious tournament.
Representing the school under the leadership of Coach and Team Captain Mr. S. Velavan, the team members included:

The tournament consisted of eight rounds, and the team secured victories in all eight rounds without facing a single defeat. They faced and defeated school teams from Mongolia, Hungary, Austria, USA, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.
This international event, held at Episcopal High School in Washington D.C., witnessed participation from over 250 players representing the best school teams from 55 countries around the world
The outstanding performance of the five players and their captain Mr. S. Velavan has brought great pride to the nation, state, and their school.
