Story -:
Produced by Pushkar-Gayathri and starring Aditi Balan and Dushara Vijayan, the Tamil web series *Exam* has been released as a gripping suspense thriller set against the backdrop of exam paper leaks and fraud. Premiering on Amazon Prime Video on May 15, 2026, the series arrives amidst high expectations from viewers, centering on the themes of mistaken identities involving two women and the ethical dilemmas surrounding competitive examinations.
It is a suspense drama built around a competitive examination. The series vividly narrates how a question paper leak—and the subsequent fraudulent activities—transform the lives of two women, and depicts their experiences within the examination hall.
Aditi Balan and Dushara Vijayan have delivered stellar performances in the lead roles; additionally, the series marks the debut of “Public Star” Durai Sudhakar.

Produced by Pushkar-Gayathri and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker A. Sarkunam, the series gains significant added strength from this collaboration.
It is expected to be an excellent choice for viewers who enjoy narratives involving examinations, academic malpractice, psychological stress, and thriller elements.
Jhansi abducts Maramalli, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) who has been transferred from Chennai to take charge in Thaikara. Impersonating Maramalli, Jhansi assumes the official position. She then sets out to uncover the corruption plaguing the Regional Public Service Commission (RPSC). The narrative unfolds to reveal who Jhansi truly is, why she is determined to expose this corruption, and her motives behind abducting Maramalli.

Web Series Review -:
Abbas plays the role of Jayachandran, who not only assists Jhansi in boldly impersonating a DSP but also physically and mentally prepares her for the task. The episode exploring the nature of the relationship between him and Jhansi makes for engaging viewing.
Aditi Balan portrays the character of Maramalli. She beautifully conveys a spectrum of nuanced emotions—ranging from arrogance of authority and anger to helplessness and guilt—through her facial expressions. Dushara Vijayan plays the role of Jhansi; she fits perfectly into the character of someone who has lost everything at the hands of an unseen figure abusing their power.

When she appears in the guise of a DSP, she carries a subtle melancholy rather than an air of commanding authority. One feels that she could have avoided making sorrow the predominant element of her performance, to the exclusion of the character’s drive to uncover the truth or her thirst for vengeance.
In the first episode, the stunt choreographer has brilliantly orchestrated the fight sequence that takes place inside a car between Aditi Balan and Dushara Vijayan. Similarly, in the sixth episode, Arun Amarendran has executed the cinematography with great finesse in the scene where the two women join forces to fight off those attempting to kill them.

Vasundhara Kashyap makes a cameo appearance in the role of Saranya. Akshatha Ajit, who plays the younger version of Saranya, is a perfect choice for the role; her very face seems to tell a story. Naren Mani, playing the villain, and Surya Jaya, playing his younger self, have both delivered strong performances.
The final episode—in which Dushara Vijayan and Naren Mani take turns quizzing each other with competitive exam-style questions—proves to be an enjoyable segment that serves as a test of their respective IQs. This series lays bare the monumental betrayal that the system has inflicted upon students who are preparing for government recruitment examinations with high hopes.

The identity of the “whale”—the mastermind orchestrating these schemes—has been left unrevealed, serving instead as a lead-in for the second season. In a poignant sequence within the series, when a character passes away, their body is set adrift down the river, accompanied by a duck.

It is somewhat difficult to believe that this seven-episode series was written and directed by A. Sarkunam. Deviating significantly from his signature style, he has crafted the screenplay in the distinct vein of the duo Pushkar and Gayatri, who served as creative producers for the series under the banner of Wallwatcher Films.
