New directors in Tamil cinema are giving us some good works and making us look back. Recent movies like Jail and Blast can be an example of this. The film ‘Modha Rathiri’ directed by debutant director Raja Karuppasamy has also joined this line.
Rishikanth is the hero in the film and Anishma, who acted as the heroine in Jail and Youth films, is the heroine. Chetan has played the lead role. Now let’s see about the film.
The story and the way the story is told
A small village near Tuticorin. Rishikanth from that village is working in Dubai. He has decided not to get married due to a failed love affair a few years ago. But Rishikanth’s mother is determined to get her son married. Unbeknownst to the son, he is looking for a girl in another nearby town and making marriage arrangements. He hides the reason of marriage from his son and calls him from Dubai with another reason. Rishikanth who comes to town comes to know about this. Vanda reluctantly agrees to the marriage. If this is a problem for the groom, it is another problem for the bride.
Anishma, who is a bride, falls in love with a young man. She agrees to this marriage due to her mother’s insistence, believing that her boyfriend will come and abduct her anyway on the day of the wedding. But Rishikanth and Anushma get married with no other choice.
On the night of the wedding day, Anishma’s old love Rishikanth comes to know. Anishma says her lover will wait for her at the town border. Rishikant takes you to the border temple without the relatives knowing that I will kill you and marry you to your lover.
Meanwhile Aneesma also comes to know about Rishikanth’s old love through the temple priest. Relatives at home start searching where the bride and groom have gone. Their past love also comes to light in both the houses. This is shaping up to be a huge fight. Did Aneesma move in with her old boyfriend? We have seen a lot of thriller type films. It is a romance thriller genre film. The film starts with a normal course till the wedding and then the film travels at express speed. On one side the story travels with the bride and the groom. On the other hand, the story goes on with the activities of the relatives in the house. Third, the men in the house fight, the story goes. The director has given this story that takes place in three places with great excitement and interest.
A simple love problem has been mixed with a thriller in which Bleaver has told many things like society, caste, patriarchy in the story. The way the story is told is more interesting than the story itself. When watching the film, it is clear that he has done a good job in writing and after that he went to shoot. Usually in many films, they have written well with emphasis on the characters of the hero and heroine. The other character is not so important. But in this film, they have given importance to many characters, equal to the hero and heroine, and at the same time a little more than them. The women in the film, especially Sambandhi, are very realistic and the director has made it as if the family women in the southern district are brought before the eyes. The character design of Bhagavati, who is the maternal uncle Abdul Lee to the boy and the stepfather to the girl, is also commendable. Anishma, who played a cute girl in the movies Jail, Youth, has played the role of a woman who is calm and a little depressed due to the pressure of her parents. Bhagwati and Abdul Lee, who have been acting in small roles so far, have done a wonderful job. The scene where both of them fight is similar to the fight that happens in our married homes.
Everyone who has acted in the film has realized their role very well. Pusari Chetan is conducting in a different character which he has never conducted before. All the women in the film have understood and spoken the lines given to them very wonderfully.
Music – Cinematography – Editing
A song set in the marriage house with Bharat Shankar’s music is enjoyable, while other songs are approx. Surendran Paranjodi’s cinematography and Ashok Arjunan’s editing play an important role in keeping the film exciting. There is nothing majorly wrong with this film.
The director has given the title Motha Rathiri to this film based on some problems that happen on the night of the wedding day. Even if the film had a different title, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference.
Debutant director Raja Karuppasamy can be praised for telling many things like society, relationships, caste perspective through a romantic thriller.
