Story-:
In recent years, the roles Dulquer has chosen reflect a 8 to step outside his comfort zone. From *King of Kotha* to *Lucky Bhaskar*, he has consistently experimented with diverse facets of his acting craft. Furthermore, the film *Don John* offers him another opportunity to fully immerse himself in an exaggerated, larger-than-life character. There is a palpable sense of assurance in his performance—one that is further bolstered as the writing by Sajeer Baba, Bilal Moythu, and Ismail Aboobacker begins to peel back the layers of his character. The technical departments reinforce the film’s ambitious vision; Jakes Bejoy’s music injects significant energy into the narrative, while Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography maintains a sense of restraint and balance, even as the film unfolds within a world of grand, spectacular visuals.
Perhaps the film’s greatest strength lies in its willingness to embrace a challenge. In recent years, the Malayalam film industry has explored various dimensions of imaginative storytelling. However, *I’m Game* boldly ventures into a genre rarely attempted in Malayalam cinema, choosing a highly unconventional path. In the hands of less capable technicians, such an ambitious project could easily have become a failed gamble. Instead, it emerges a winner, thanks to its entertaining and emotional moments, as well as performances that keep the narrative gripping. Watching Mysskin, Gayathri Lohar, and Samyuktha Viswanathan perform is a sheer delight. Although the female characters are given significant screen time, they are not granted a commensurate level of freedom—a missed opportunity. Had these characters been endowed with greater depth and autonomy, it would have enhanced various scenes and strengthened the film’s emotional resonance.
‘I Am Game’ may not be an instantly accessible piece of mainstream entertainment, but its ambition and willingness to venture into unfamiliar territory work in its favor. Starting as a flashy, grand underworld saga, the story gradually evolves into something truly unique, making the film an intriguing experiment within Malayalam cinema.

With its abundant action sequences, energetic music, and a world of excessive opulence, ‘I Am Game’ could easily be mistaken at first glance for a typical Telugu or Tamil-style entertainer. Directed by Nahas Hidayath—who debuted with the film ‘RDX’—the movie initially immerses itself in a lavish underworld of casinos and high-stakes betting. It centers on a pampered protagonist who fits seamlessly into this grand setting. For Malayalam audiences accustomed to realistic storytelling, this unfamiliar milieu might initially feel alien or even slightly confusing.

However, the film gradually moves away from the gangster genre it seems to embrace in its early stages. As the first half progresses, that grand world begins to give way to something far more extraordinary; elements of fantasy slowly seep into the narrative, reshaping our understanding of the story. By the time a key character enters the plot, ‘I Am Game’ has already transformed into something distinct—shifting focus from its initial spectacle to the peculiar, entertaining world it ultimately constructs. This gradual evolution lends the film much of its charm, transforming what initially appeared to be an ambitious pan-Indian star vehicle into a unique and unexpected experiment.
For Dulquer, this film marks a significant return to acting in the Malayalam film industry. Although he has remained active as a producer—having produced last year’s hit ‘Loka’—’I Am Game’ sees him returning to the screen as an actor in Malayalam cinema after a three-year hiatus. Following the setback of the film ‘King of Kotha’, his decision to make a comeback with a fantasy-based film is intriguing—especially considering how rarely he has appeared in this genre in recent years.
At its core, ‘I Am Game’ is an experiment built around an extraordinary concept. In this regard, it is reminiscent of S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Eega’, a film that crafted a compelling narrative around an unconventional protagonist while imbuing the character with genuine emotional depth. Similarly, ‘I Am Game’ seeks to explore dramatic and emotional possibilities within an unconventional premise, lending the film a unique identity that transcends mere grandeur and spectacle.
